Department of Geography

The Department started its journey in the year 1984 when it got affiliation from The University of Burdwan. The department only provided then Pass Programme. In 1986, three-year Honours Programme was introduced and since then, the Department is providing the degree course. Post-Graduation programme in the Department started in 2017 under the affiliation of Kazi Nazrul University. The Geography department of TDB College is spreading its wing since the inception and the latest feather added to the cap of the department is introduction of PhD programme in 2021 under Kazi Nazrul University. The department has a well-equipped smart classroom ornamented with a smartboard and 22 desktop computers which are the reservoir of various open-source data as well as the platform for data processing and analysis using different Remote Sensing and GIS. A well-equipped ICT classroom with LCD Projector, Wi-Fi Zone along with high configuration handheld GPS is also there. The dept has its own Weather Station, Tracing Room and a museum to exhibits specimen of rocks and minerals. A precious map library is also there which contains about 1400 topographical maps, aerial photographs, atlases and satellite imageries. Sufficient number of survey instruments, geological, geomorphological and meteorological instruments, Remote Sensing and GIS instruments are well organized and satisfactory to meet the demand of modern age UG and PG syllabus of Geography. The students of the department are very enthusiastic to take part various extra-curricular activities. They have performed well and earned trophies for the dept in various sports championship, cultural competition and social exhibition programme within and outside of the college premises. Students also publish a departmental magazine named ‘Akashganga’ and a wall magazine named ‘Mohona’ regularly. After completion of the Undergraduate Degree and Post-graduate course, students from this department are engaged in various academic and research work from various institute of Indian subcontinent. Many of them are also established in various job sectors both in Govt. and private.
