The Mathematics Department is well known as one of the Rich Department in T.D.B. College in connection to produce good students who are well-established in many corners of the society since 1967-68. The Department is well-equipped for undergraduate level of students with four tenured faculties and one tenured-track now. Currently the Department running Honours Course and Pass Course simultaneously. The Honours Course includes around 42 student intake capacity with contemporary rich syllabus and Department offers General Course to students as well. The Department started its journey with General Course in 1960-61 with incorporation of two tenured faculties. Prof. S.M. Sengupta was one of them renowned to incorporating Honours course getting suggested by educational directorate and appointing four more tenured professors in 1967. After retirement of Prof. Sengupta, Prof. S.K. Biswas became the department chair and continued it three more years until Dr. M. Jas took over the charge. In his time a well-equipped and decorated computer lab was established by fruitful and keen suggestions of Prof. R.P. Paul and Prof. S.K. Nandi to kick off coding in Mathematics using Fortran-77 for Numerical Programming. After completion of Dr. Jas’s ‘golden time’ as department chair, Dr. P.S. Chakroborty took the charge as successor and kept on with proper maintenance which consequently followed by Prof. S. K. Nandi and Dr. M. M. Panja. Later Dr. S. Dholey renovated the department adding more computer in Lab, making a seminal library and improving interior of the departmental office by few changes with helpful assistance of Prof. N. Pal and continued his care for the department till March, 2015 before taking lien. During the tenure of Dr. S. Dholey, Prof. K. Roy joined as tenure-track professor and later in 2015 Prof. P. K. Das, Prof. P. Mandal and Prof. P. Sen joined to enrich the department and Dr. A. Sutradhar has also served the department for two years, later on Mr. N. Ahamed and Dr. S. Sarkar joined the department. They took many initiatives to improving the condition of the department in many ways so far and keeping on their journey together and Prof. P. Sen holding the chair right now. The Department of Mathematics has a well-equipped Computer Laboratory which has 10 computers. The Department of Mathematics has organized many seminars involving students and faculties. After completing B.Sc. in Mathematics students can go for higher education (M.Sc., MCA, M. Math) and they can take preparation for SSC, UPSC, Banking sector or many state and central level jobs. Many pass out students has joined and well-established in higher education sector in state and central level so far and doing research in different fields.
