Department of philosophy in T.D.B College was established in 1957. Initially, the department started its journey offering only General course in Philosophy. Later, keeping in mind the importance of subject in present era, the Honours course was also introduced in 2008. B.A. Honours in Philosophy, students have various career options where there are lot of job opportunities. Here, below are some of those career options one can pursue right after B.A. Honours in Philosophy like Jobs in Civil Services (WBCS, IAS, IPS, IRS), Indian Railways, Banks, SSC etc. Many of the students get engaged in higher education like M.A. in Philosophy, and PhD in Philosophy/Sanskrit after the successful undergraduate course, Teaching in Schools, General degree colleges, and University also. Beside the general academic engagements, students use to pursue career as Lawyers, Social Worker, Businessman, Health service manager, IT consultant etc. A large number of students of this department had qualified various competitive exams like WBCS, SSC, Bank P.O Exam, School Service Commission, NET, SET etc.
